MY NAME IS LUCY SANDS AND I HAVE An amazing HOBBY

As someone who always had my nose in a book as a child, my desire to write started from a very young age. After various experiences writing for magazines both here and in Australia, I was hooked on the thrill of seeing my work in print. However it was not until I worked alongside pre-school children in Melbourne that my love of children's literature was reignited.

For years I have dreamt of characters, plots and all the ingredients needed to create great children’s stories. It was not until I put pen to paper that I realised my genuine passion and love of writing them. Deep down I am happiest when my mind is with the worlds I create, and when I knew these stories were worth telling, it was time to make my hobby a reality.

"Don't you know that everybody's got a Fairyland of their own?"

– P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins

"If at first you don't succeed? Make it happen yourself". This is the mantra I adopted after various unsuccessful attempts in the traditional publishing industry. Those familiar with these hardships will relate to the frustration of limited opportunities for unsolicited manuscripts and the ‘Catch 22’ of rarely finding an agent without being published. So I embarked on a remarkable journey of self-publishing where I have learnt every aspect of book production, from legal contracts, illustration, ISBN and BIC codes, printing, distribution, ebook production, social media and marketing. The creation of my company, Peachy Pie Publishing Ltd, has opened my eyes to the most fascinating world and has been worth every penny.

"You're mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are."

– Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

When I reminisce on the magical days of my childhood, they are filled with stories by Beatrix Potter, Lewis Carrol, Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton to name but a few. I can only dream that the books I produce are even a fraction as successful as these, but it is my strong desire that they will hopefully provide as much enjoyment to today's child readers as what I experienced back then. My first book will be published on 28th June 2016. Please see "Book 1 - The Journey" section for details of my amazing self-publishing venture.

"A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men."

– Roald Dahl, Charley and the Great Glass Elevator.
